The Center for Civil War Studies at Virginia Tech, in partnership with the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission and Blue Ridge PBS, has created a unique educational resource specifically for the sesquicentennial: a DVD for teachers to use in the classroom as a supplemental instructional tool in the teaching of Civil War history. For more information

The three-hour two-DVD set is divided into nine 20-minute segments that examine the Civil War from multiple perspectives: the background of the war, military campaigns, the African-American experience, leading Virginia personalities, the common soldiers, home front activities and legacies of the war for all Americans.

Serving to augment textbooks and teaching lessons, the film features high-definition footage, commentary from dozens of historians, and a number of features that will capture and hold the attention of students and audiences of all ages. A content outline has been developed to support the program.

One of the Commission's Signature Projects of the commmemoration, one copy of "Virginia in the Civil War: A Sesquicentennial Remembrance," was distributed free of charge in November 2009 to each public elementary, middle and high school in the Commonwealth, as well as to every library system in Virginia and each local sesquicentennial committee.

While the DVD was developed with students in mind, its content is timeless and the program can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. Experts cover nearly every aspect of the Civil War - - homefront to battlefront; the coming of the war to its lasting legacies. This is a must-have for everyone from the Civil War buff to those who are just learning about the conflict that tested a nation, led to freedom for four million people, and defined the United States as we know it today.

Order your copy of this commemorative two-DVD set today! Special discounts are available for educators. For more information, please contact Cheryl Jackson.
